What we do.
Emergency Rental Assistance.
Our eviction prevention program begins by reaching out directly to households behind on rent. We hand-deliver an application for assistance along with clear instructions to make the process accessible. Once approved, HSSA resolves the immediate crisis by paying the full past-due rent balance, allowing families to avoid eviction and remain housed.
In return, participating residents engage in financial literacy and case management, working with our team to set personalized financial goals. We provide ongoing support to help them build the skills and resources needed to meet those goals, pay rent consistently, and achieve long-term housing stability.
HSSA ONLY PROVIDES EMERGENCY RENTAL ASSISTANCE AT PROPERTIES WHERE WE SERVE
Case Management.
Our skilled case managers are available to all residents, not just those receiving emergency rental assistance. They can meet onsite or virtually and provide one-on-one support with building résumés, applying for jobs, completing applications for assistance programs, and navigating complex government systems. Case managers also connect residents to community resources, including help with utility bills and other essential needs.
Fresh Food Market.
The HSSA onsite Fresh Food Market provides items such as meat, cheese, milk, eggs, fruit, vegetables to lower the monthly grocery bill for households which frees up their income to pay rent. We often provide a receipe for a meal that can be prepared with what our Fresh Food Market is offering!
“And thank you for everything you and your team do! I picked up another meal ( my 2nd round ) last night at Saison North community room. Your services have been such a Godsend. They build community which makes me feel less alone and I'm filled with happiness to see people during pick up. The food comes with a recipe and the ingredients! Fantastic! This gift soothes my worry about stretching my dollars for groceries. I am still looking for part-time work so every bit helps.”

Social Events.
We host a variety of social events that bring neighbors together and strengthen our community. Favorites include Bingo, house plant parties, cookouts, Back-to-School celebrations, Supper Club, Cooking with Your Kids, Movie Nights, and Veteran’s Day gatherings. Twice a year, we also hold My Sister’s Closet—a lively event where residents can choose from free clothing, home décor, toys, bedding, kitchen items, artwork, and housewares. It’s always a joyful day, filled with gratitude and connection for donors, volunteers, and residents alike.
Arts and Crafts.
We love getting creative together! Crafting is a big part of our community, and we celebrate each season with hands-on projects. From Valentine’s Day cards and Celtic coloring to pumpkin decorating, Mother’s Day cards, Thankful Turkeys, and festive tree ornaments, there’s always something fun to make and share.
Transportation Assistance.
We use our nonprofit status to purchase reduce cost bus passes which are distributed for free to residents at the properties where we serve.
