Volunteer Opportunities
HSSA has many opportunities for individuals, families and groups to get involved!
Supper Club at Cady Lofts
Supper Club is one of our volunteers’ favorite events—and for good reason! Held monthly on the second Sunday of each month at 5:00 PM, Supper Club brings volunteers and residents together over a shared meal at Cady Lofts, a 100-unit permanent supportive housing community for individuals who have experienced homelessness.
Volunteers make the magic happen by cooking, purchasing, or catering dinner for residents. Past meals have included lasagna, gumbo, turkey meatloaf, soups, Italian feasts, and even breakfast for dinner!
There’s a place for every style of giving. You can bake and drop off brownies, help sign residents in or take photos, serve food, or simply sit, eat, and connect with residents. Prefer to support financially? You can sponsor a meal—if it’s catered and delivered, our volunteers will handle serving.
To get involved contact our lead volunteer, Lorrie Salome, at lorrainesalome@gmail.com.
My Sister’s Closet (and so much more!)
My Sister’s Closet (and so much more!) is one of HSSA’s most beloved events, hosted twice a year. This thrift-style experience transforms one of our participating properties into an upscale boutique, stocked entirely with donated items from the community.
When the doors open, everything is completely FREE for residents of HSSA properties. Clothing, shoes, accessories, and more—beautifully displayed so residents can shop with dignity, joy, and choice.
Pulling off My Sister’s Closet takes a village, and we need lots of support! Volunteer opportunities include donating items, helping organize and sort donations the day before the event, and thoughtfully displaying items in a welcoming, boutique-style setting. On event day, volunteers help sign residents in, assist with transportation coordination from multiple properties, keep inventory organized, take photos and video to share the story of the event, and—if you’re a fashionista—help residents put together outfits. After the event, we also need help with breakdown and cleanup.
We are also actively seeking food and beverage sponsors. Do you own a coffee shop or taco truck? Love to bake? We provide food for residents and volunteers and welcome in-kind donations to help make the day extra special.
Are you a DJ? We’d love to have you! Music brings the energy, and a live DJ at My Sister’s Closet makes the event even more fun and celebratory.
My Sister’s Closet also serves as a fundraiser. While all items are free for our residents, members of the general public may shop items for donation.
The next Sister’s Closet will be held Saturday February 21, 2026, at Saison North Apartments (10010 Capital of Texas Highway). Volunteer to sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C044EABAE2AA5FBCE9-61791921-february

HSSA Fresh Food Markets
One of the most critical services HSSA provides at the properties we serve is access to healthy, free food. Through our Fresh Food Markets, residents can receive nutritious groceries at no cost.
Volunteers play a key role in making this possible by helping pick up and/or distribute food at our markets. If you’d like to get involved, please sign up through our SignUpGenius https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C044EABAE2AA5FBCE9-61791921-february.
